Kumamoto Tourism Hit by 6 Billion Yen Loss from Massive Earthquake

The recent massive earthquake in southwestern Japan has dealt a devastating blow to Kumamoto Prefecture's tourism industry.

According to the prefectural government, the July 28 earthquake caused approximately 4.04 billion yen in damage to hotel buildings and equipment.

In addition, about 146,000 people canceled their hotel bookings by August 6, resulting in losses of around 2.06 billion yen.

The cancellations were particularly high in the Aso and Amakusa areas, which suffered relatively little damage from the quake.
