A recent Ipsos Issues Monitor survey has shown that Labour is considered more capable of addressing New Zealand's top issues, including inflation and the cost of living, health, and education. The poll of 1002 people found that Labour, led by Chris Hipkins, now leads National on managing these key issues, reclaiming authority from them on the economy.

The Ipsos survey identified five major concerns for New Zealanders: inflation/cost of living, health, education, housing affordability, and the environment. According to the poll results, Labour is trusted more than National to handle each of these issues.

The survey was conducted in July 2026 and provides insight into public perception of the two major parties' abilities to address key challenges facing New Zealanders. While this development may be significant for both parties, it remains to be seen how this will impact the upcoming election.
