Labour Unveils Small Business Action Plan to Support Kiwi Entrepreneurs
The Labour Party has unveiled its Small Business Action Plan to support Kiwi entrepreneurs, particularly those from Indian communities.
A new report commissioned by the Waitakere Indian Association found that Kiwi Indians contributed over $37 billion to New Zealand's economy in the year to March 2025, supporting more than 220,000 full-time jobs and operating 34,000 businesses.
Labour Leader Chris Hipkins said small business owners are being squeezed by rising costs and falling demand under the current National government. Business liquidations are at a 15-year high, business confidence is falling, and Christopher Luxon is telling hardworking business owners to grow up.
Labour's plan aims to back small businesses by requiring big businesses to pay their suppliers within 15 days on invoices of $25,000 or less, lifting the asset write-off from $1000 to $10,000 for businesses with annual turnover below $10 million, and raising the GST registration threshold from $60,000 to $80,000.
