Lagarde: Bulgaria's High Inflation Due to Price Correction

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde acknowledged that Bulgaria has experienced high inflation since joining the eurozone. In response to a question from BTA, she explained that some prices had been held back and then corrected.

The ECB president noted that this is not entirely unusual and that there are always differences among member states. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that inflation returns to more acceptable levels, especially for the Bulgarian population.

Lagarde also mentioned that the ECB is monitoring the eurozone as a whole, including the differences between member states like Bulgaria. The current decision on interest rates was based on the outlook for energy prices, which are now close to the baseline scenario in the Eurosystem experts' June projections and significantly above pre-conflict levels.
