Lagarde Calls on Bulgaria to Prioritize Stable Public Finances Amid High Inflation
Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), has emphasized the importance of maintaining stable public finances for Bulgaria. In a recent press conference following the ECB's monetary policy meeting in Frankfurt am Main, Lagarde addressed a question from Bulgarian news agency BTA. She noted that Bulgaria is currently experiencing high prices and inflation, which may be due to previously held prices being released into the market.
Lagarde attributed these divergences between Member States as not entirely unusual. However, she stressed that it's crucial for Bulgaria to ensure its inflation returns to more acceptable levels, particularly for the local population. The ECB head added that they are monitoring the euro area as a whole while paying attention to differences among Member States.
