Lagarde Considered for WEF Presidency in 2027 Amid Leadership Transition
Christine Lagarde, the current chief of the European Central Bank (ECB), has been considered for the presidency of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2027. According to a Swiss newspaper report, she was described as a 'putative candidate' during a recent board meeting near Geneva.
Lagarde, who has been a member of the WEF's board for several terms, reportedly expressed her willingness to assume the presidency, stating that she is 'ready to serve'. The current co-chairs of the WEF board, Roche vice-chairman André Hoffmann and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, will continue to lead until at least January 2027.
The succession process for the WEF presidency has been ongoing, with Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam suggesting that suitable candidates are available within the organization. However, no exact timeline was established for Lagarde's potential appointment as president.
