Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank (ECB), has emerged as a potential candidate to lead the World Economic Forum. The organization is currently preparing for a new phase of leadership following the departure of its founder, Klaus Schwab.

The transition could begin as early as 2027, with Lagarde at the center of discussions over the future direction of the forum that hosts the annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Reuters reported that she was described as a potential candidate during a World Economic Forum board meeting held near Geneva this week.

Lagarde said she was 'ready to serve' and thanked the forum's 28-member board for its confidence in her. Her potential candidacy carries considerable weight given her extensive experience in international financial and political institutions, as well as her previous service on the World Economic Forum's board.
