Lagarde Tipped for WEF Leadership in 2027 Amid Succession Discussion
Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB), is being tipped to take over as head of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2027. According to a report by the Swiss newspaper Neue Zurcher Zeitung (NZZ), the WEF's Board of Trustees has described Lagarde as a potential candidate for the position. The succession discussion was reportedly led by Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who emphasized that the matter should be handled internally.
Lagarde serves on the WEF's Board of Trustees and expressed gratitude to fellow board members for their confidence, stating her readiness to serve. However, it is unclear if she will take on the role in 2027, as the ECB president has an eight-year term that ends in October of that year.
