Lagarde Warns of Intensifying Energy Shocks and Rising Food Prices

European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde recently addressed concerns about inflation and energy prices. She noted that risks to inflation are skewed towards the upside, indicating a higher likelihood of price increases.

Lagarde emphasized that an ongoing energy shock could intensify further, leading to longer-term impacts on prices. She also highlighted the possibility of extreme weather events and climate crises driving up food prices.

The ECB President attributed some positive developments since June's decision to the post-MOU drop in Brent crude oil prices being quicker than anticipated. However, she stressed that the central bank studied the density, durability, and propagation of supply shocks carefully.
