Lagarde's Potential Move to WEF as ECB Term Nears End

Christine Lagarde, the current President of the European Central Bank (ECB), may become the head of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the future. According to a report by Reuters, citing the Swiss newspaper NZZ, Lagarde's candidacy was discussed at a meeting of the WEF's 28-member board. The newspaper claims that Lagarde expressed her willingness to take on the role and thanked the board members for their trust.

Lagarde has served on the WEF board for several terms and is currently leading the ECB, with her term ending in October 2027. There have been previous speculations that she might leave the ECB before the end of her term to lead the WEF or even enter the French presidential race in 2027.

The WEF's current leadership coincides with a period of restructuring following the departure of its founder, Klaus Schwab. The organization is currently led by co-chairs Roche Vice Chairman André Hoffmann and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink. Their leadership will continue until at least January 2027, when they are set to host the WEF's annual meeting in Davos.
