Larsen Slams Trump's New Tariffs as 'Sabotaging the American Economy'
US Representative Rick Larsen has criticized President Donald Trump's decision to impose new 50% tariffs on Canadian goods. The tariffs went into effect at midnight on Saturday, affecting approximately $50 billion in Canadian imports. In a statement, Larsen said that these tariffs are 'yet another way' the Trump administration is raising prices and sabotaging the American economy.
Larsen's comments come after trade negotiations between the US and Canada broke down on Friday night. The breakdown led to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney suspending talks with the US, promising retaliatory tariffs against US goods.
According to Larsen, the tariffs will harm local businesses in Northwest Washington by raising prices and reducing jobs. He called for renegotiation of the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) and an end to these 'pointless, reckless tariffs.'
