LEC Expands Partnership with European Union and Spain
The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) has expanded its partnership to include the European Union and Spain, bringing in additional expertise, technology, capital, and global business networks.
This move marks a significant growth for the LEC, which was initially launched by the Philippines, United States, and Japan to accelerate strategic infrastructure investments, strengthen connectivity and supply chains, and enhance the Philippines' competitiveness as an investment and production hub.
The corridor has since grown to include 11 other countries: Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The addition of the EU and Spain further deepens Europe's engagement with the corridor.
The European Union will align its €60-million Green Economy Programme and €20-million Digital Economy Package with LEC priorities, supporting green and circular development, renewable energy and energy efficiency, secure digital connectivity, innovation, and skills development. Meanwhile, Spain will bring public- and private-sector expertise to advance potential LEC projects in railways, modular infrastructure, aviation, shipbuilding, air-navigation management, and renewable-energy connectivity.
The LEC Investment Forum held on September 10, 2026 brought together government leaders, international partners, investors, and business executives to showcase priority projects, forge partnerships, and advance investment opportunities across the corridor. Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go emphasized that the LEC is ultimately about turning international partnerships into concrete investments and economic opportunities for Filipinos.
