Liberals Surpass 14-Point Lead Over Conservatives Amid Escalating Trade War

A recent poll conducted by Abacus Data has found that the Liberals have a significant lead over the Conservatives, with 47% of committed voters intending to vote for them in an election held today. This marks the largest lead for the Liberals since Mark Carney became leader, and is up four points from the last poll conducted at the end of August.

The survey found that support for the Liberals remains above 50% in several provinces, including British Columbia, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. In Quebec, the Liberals are favoured by 48%, while the Conservatives are favoured in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

According to Abacus Data CEO David Coletto, the poll reinforces how much the political environment has shifted in favour of Mark Carney and the Liberals since the trade negotiations with the United States collapsed. Canadians have rallied behind the Prime Minister's decision to walk away from the agreement offered by the US, and largely support standing firm.

The survey also found that 46% of Canadians identify the US administration as their top concern, with only the rising cost of living a bigger issue. The economy is listed as third, followed by healthcare, and housing affordability and accessibility rounding out the top five.
