Libya's Central Bank Governor Resigns Amid Dollar Rate Concerns

The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, has tendered his resignation. In a widely leaked letter to the heads of the House of Representatives and the High State Council, Issa stated that he would not continue in his role as Governor.

Issa cited the sensitivity of the reasons for his resignation but did not elaborate further.

At one point today, the US dollar was trading on the black-market at LD 9.30/dollar, far from Issa's goal to bring this rate 'to under LD 7.00' when he started his tenure.

Issa was appointed as a consensus appointment in October 2024 after the UN mediated between Libya's conflicting political entities.
