Clare Lombardelli, the deputy governor for monetary policy at the Bank of England, has been unusually quiet this year. According to data compiled by Bloomberg, she attended just two public events in 2026, which is a tie for the fewest appearances among Monetary Policy Committee members. Her last full speech on monetary policy was more than a year ago, in May 2025.

Lombardelli's responsibilities include communicating with authority and credibility to Parliament, the media, the markets, and the wider public. However, her low profile has raised questions about where she is and why she is not speaking out on monetary policy issues. The Bank of England did not provide a comment on Lombardelli's absence from public events.
