London Stocks Edge Higher Ahead of Key Warsh Speech
London's stock market continued its upward trend on August 28 as investors digested several corporate updates and awaited Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium.
The blue-chip FTSE 100 rose 0.1% to 10,807.89 points by 1054 GMT, while the midcap FTSE 250 added 0.2% to 24,936.06 points.
Investors remain cautious ahead of Warsh's speech, which is expected to provide insights into monetary policy, inflation, and the economic outlook. The speech could impact market sentiment, with some analysts expecting Warsh to maintain his less-is-better approach to monetary policy communications or provide a rough roadmap for addressing elevated inflation.
On the corporate front, Halfords climbed 2% after forecasting annual profit ahead of market expectations, while Goodwin surged 5.9% following a full-year trading profit of £77.50 million ($105.3 million). Hays also saw gains after being upgraded to 'buy' from 'hold' by Panmure Liberum.
