London Stocks Flat Ahead of US-Iran Sanctions Announcement
The London stock market is expected to open flat on Monday after the US announced it will impose its toughest sanctions yet on Iran. The FTSE 100 is called to open at 10,816.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the upcoming sanctions as 'the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary', adding that 'at dawn begins an economic D-Day'.
Brent crude prices are down 1.6% at $92.85 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate is 2% lower at $85.33.
This week will also see earnings from Nvidia and a speech by new Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium in Wyoming. Kathleen Brooks of XTB noted that the options market is pricing in a 6% move on Nvidia's results.
