London Stocks Tread Cautiously Ahead of Key Economic Data Releases
London stocks inched up in early trade on Thursday as investors adopted a cautious approach ahead of key economic data releases from the US and European Central Bank.
The FTSE 100 index rose 0.1% to 7,087.52 at 0845 BST, with several companies posting notable gains amidst a lackluster market sentiment.
Neil Wilson, chief market analyst at Markets.com, observed that US bond yields have declined significantly in recent weeks, indicating a possible decrease in inflation concerns despite the upcoming data releases.
The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) is expected to show a 4.7% annual rate in May, up from 4.2% in April, which could reignite market worries about Federal Reserve policy tightening.
Meanwhile, investors are also keeping an eye on the European Central Bank's policy announcement at 1245 BST, with Wilson cautioning that any discussion of tapering could have significant implications for market expectations and the euro currency.
