The Canadian dollar softened on Wednesday, trading at US$0.7207 or C$1=US$1.3876, down from Tuesday's value of US$0.7226 or C$1=US$1.3839.

Trade tensions weighed on the TSX/S&P Composite Index, causing it to lose 143.98 points and close at 36,813.65, after earlier reaching a new all-time high of 37,069.11.
