Loonie Dips as Trade Tensions Weigh on Canadian Markets
The Canadian dollar declined slightly on Tuesday morning as trade tensions between Canada and the US continue to weigh on markets. The loonie dropped to $0.7219 or $1=C$1.3852 as of 8:33 a.m. CDT, down from Monday's close of $0.7224 or $1=C$1.3842.
The U.S. Dollar Index remained unchanged at 99.00 points.
Canada is expected to announce countermeasures and new supports for workers in efforts to mitigate the economic fallout from US tariffs, which are set to be implemented on Tuesday.
