Loonie Rallies as Oil Prices Soar Amid US-Iran Tensions
The Canadian dollar rebounded on Monday, driven by declines in the US dollar and surging oil prices. The loonie gained ground against its American counterpart, with a closing value of $1 = C$1.3866 versus Friday's close of $1 = C$1.3888. The US Dollar Index also dipped, down 0.273 points at 98.385.
The sharp increase in crude oil prices was sparked by the escalating conflict between the US and Iran, with West Texas Intermediate jumping to $85.94 per barrel and Brent crude advancing to $90.45.
Despite the boost to Canada's currency, the TSX Composite Index still recorded a loss of 283.44 points on Monday, closing at 36,270.48. Gold prices also declined, down $30.60 at $4,499.30 per ounce.
