Loonie Soars to Two-Month High on Strong Canadian Job Numbers

The Canadian dollar strengthened over the weekend in response to new job numbers. The loonie closed at US$0.7172 on Thursday, its highest close since June 10.

This increase comes after Statistics Canada reported that 75,000 jobs were added in July and the unemployment rate declined to 6.4 per cent, the lowest level in two years.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index also rose, gaining 244.92 points to close at 36,381.23.
