Loonie Surges Against Greenback as Oil Prices Soar
The Canadian Dollar has made significant gains against the US Dollar in just ten trading days, erasing two months of losses. This unexpected reversal comes as the Loonie trades at its strongest against the Greenback since June, with a rate hovering around 1.3900.
According to analysts, this sharp turnaround can be attributed to the price of Oil, which has risen by 3% and serves as a key driver of Canadian exports. The increased value of Oil has boosted demand for the Loonie, causing it to rise despite a domestic economy in technical recession and high unemployment rates.
The Bank of Canada's interest rate decisions also play a significant role in shaping the Loonie's performance. However, with the US Federal Reserve repricing a September interest rate hike from 44.1% to 49.9%, the Loonie has shown resilience, defying expectations that it would weaken further.
Looking ahead, the Canadian economy will be under scrutiny this week as key macroeconomic data releases are scheduled. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Wednesday and the Producer Price Index (PPI) on Thursday will provide valuable insights into inflation trends and economic health.
