Loonie Surges as US Treasury Bonds Decline
The Canadian dollar strengthened on Thursday, driven by a decline in US treasury bonds.
The loonie finished at $0.7252 or $1=C$1.3789, compared to Wednesday's close of $0.7213 or $1=C$1.3863.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index retreated 0.592 of a point at 98.960.
Benchmark crude oil prices rose on Thursday afternoon, but lost momentum later in the session due to hopes of a Russia-Ukraine peace deal and heightened tensions in the Middle East.
