Maine-Canada Trade Dynamics Shattered by Latest Figures
Canada's economy is heavily reliant on trade with the United States, but data suggests that Maine relies more on Canada than vice versa. According to statistics from 2025, the US exported $333.6 billion of goods to Canada out of a total of $2.18 trillion globally.
In contrast, Canada purchased $1.3 billion worth of goods from Maine in 2025, representing 41% of the state's exports. Meanwhile, Maine imported $4.1 billion of goods from Canada, accounting for only 1.1% of Canada's total exports to the US.
The ongoing tariff dispute between the two nations is reshaping their trade relationship. Between 2024 and 2025, Canada's share of exports to the US fell from 75.9% to 71.7%, while the share of Canada's US imports decreased from 62.3% to 58.8%.
