Major Banks and Central Banks Test Tokenized Payments Across Six Currencies

Twenty-six financial institutions and central banks have successfully completed Project Agorá's tokenized payment trials. The testing, which utilized tokenized central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits, processed approximately CHF 800,000 across six currencies.

The participants, including JPMorgan, Citi, UBS, and major banks like Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered, conducted 30 transactions across 17 scenarios using Swiss francs, euros, British pounds, Japanese yen, South Korean won, and US dollars.

Project Agorá's trials covered corporate and interbank payments, intragroup transfers, dual currency transactions, and payment versus payment settlement. The testing demonstrated that the prototype could interact with external banking infrastructure using established ISO 20022 payment and reporting standards.
