Market Watch: China, Canada, and Global Economy Updates
Markets will be closely watching key economic indicators this week as various countries release their data. On Monday, China's retail sales, industrial production, and fixed asset investment numbers are expected to be released.
The Canadian economy is also in focus on Monday with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July being released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Analysts expect a 0.5 per cent increase from June and a 3.0 per cent year-over-year rise. New motor vehicle sales, international securities transactions, and the U.S. Empire State Manufacturing Survey will also be released on Monday.
On Tuesday, Canada's existing home sales and average prices for July are expected to show year-over-year declines of 5.0 per cent and 1.5 per cent, respectively. Housing starts, industrial production, and import prices in the U.S. will also be released on Tuesday.
This week is not short on earnings reports either, with BHP Group Ltd., New Found Gold Corp., Baidu Inc., Home Depot Inc., Northern Dynasty Minerals Ltd., Seabridge Gold Corp., Analog Devices Inc., Estee Lauder Companies Inc., Lowe's Companies Inc., Target Corp., TJX Companies Inc. set to report.
