Markets in Disarray: USD Down, Crude Up, and T-Bonds Lower
The global markets are exhibiting unusual behavior, with no clear correlation between assets. On one hand, the US Dollar (USD) is down at 99.470, while Crude oil is up at $86.5. The 30-Year T-Bond has also dropped by 4 ticks to trade at 109.03.
However, this divergent trend continues with the S&P 500 emini ES contract trading 72 ticks lower at 7704.00. Gold, on the other hand, is down at 4505.80, which contradicts its typical inverse relationship with the US Dollar.
This mixed and seemingly uncorrelated market behavior has led analysts to question whether this is a one-day up, next day down scenario. The lack of major economic news has also been noted, making it difficult for traders to make informed decisions.
In an attempt to understand this trend, the author looked at the correlation between 2-year Treasury notes (ZT) and S&P futures contracts. A reverse correlation was observed, where ZT dropped lower while the Dow climbed higher.
