Metaplanet Holding CEO Links Bitcoin Reserves to Bank of Japan Inflation History
The CEO of Tokyo-listed Metaplanet Holding, Simon Gerovich, spoke about the relationship between Bitcoin and the Bank of Japan. He stated that the institution was born from inflation memory, referencing a historical event in which the Meiji government suspended redemption and used inflation to support military expenses during the Southwest War in 1877.
This led to a sharp rise in prices, and Matsukata Masayoshi promoted the organization of paper currency, establishing the Bank of Japan in 1882. The banknote convertibility regulations in 1884 unified the issuance rights and inscribed with the principle of 'never wanting to go through this again.'
Gerovich believes that understanding the currency mechanism starts from here. He also mentioned that Japan's debt is about 240% of GDP, providing a macro background for treating Bitcoin as a reserve.
