Mexican Peso Gains Strength as Real Rates Support
Commerzbank's Michael Pfister points out that the Mexican Peso has strengthened against the US Dollar, with the USD/MXN exchange rate now below 17. This strengthening is attributed to a weaker Dollar and Mexico's strong performance among major currencies.
The real economy in Mexico appears to be performing better than expected, despite the conflict in Iran. Additionally, the negotiations for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) are proceeding smoothly without any major issues.
Furthermore, core inflation in Mexico has been moving towards the middle of the target band, and Banxico's decision to pause rate cuts is contributing positively to real interest rates. This combination of factors is supporting the Mexican Peso.
