Mexican Peso Surges to Highest Level Since May 2024 on Strong US Jobs Data

The Mexican peso has strengthened to its highest level since May 2024, reaching around 16.89 per US dollar in September.

This recent surge is largely attributed to the robust performance of the US labor market, with nonfarm payrolls increasing by 162,000 last month, exceeding market expectations of a 56,000 gain.

The strong jobs data points to continued economic stability in the US, which bodes well for Mexico's exports and economy due to their close trade relationship.

Trade tensions involving other countries have positioned Mexico relatively favorably in terms of trade, despite the country also being affected by tariffs.
