Michigan Businesses Reel from Trade War Tariffs
The escalating trade war between the U.S. and Canada is affecting small businesses in Michigan's rural Upper Peninsula, where many residents rely on cross-border trade.
Ben Rahilly, owner of an appliance store, gift shop, furniture store, and concrete business, says prices are rising due to tariffs imposed by President Trump.
'Prices are going up. Our shipping charges are getting more and more every day,' he said.
The local economy has been steady, but the International Bridge Administration estimates businesses on the Sault Michigan side have lost $62.7 million in revenue due to decreased traffic since Trump's second term.
