The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis provides valuable insights into how median salaries change over an individual's career span, revealing a clear peak in earnings for workers between 35 and 44 years old.
According to the data, those aged 16-24 earn a median income of $40,092 per year, while their counterparts in the 25-34 age group see a significant increase to $59,800 annually. However, it's not until workers reach the mid-career stage (ages 35-44) that they experience the highest median earnings, with an average annual salary of $72,020.
This peak is followed by a gradual decline in earnings as retirement approaches. Workers aged 45-54 earn a median income of $71,604 per year, while those between 55 and 64 years old see their salaries drop to $68,744 annually. Finally, individuals aged 65 and older have a median income of $62,036 per year.
