Middle East Conflict Sparks ECB Interest Rate Fears
Cypriot economists are warning that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could lead to further interest rate increases by the European Central Bank (ECB).
The war situation is putting pressure on oil prices, which could prolong inflationary pressures and lead to higher borrowing costs.
University of Cyprus economist Sofronis Clerides stated that the ECB's latest interest rate increase was expected due to recent inflation trends, but the worsening conflict in the Middle East could exacerbate the issue.
Clerides emphasized the need for prudent financial management, as further interest rate increases could lead to increased loan repayments and pressure on household and business budgets.
