Global markets declined as the selloff in U.S. government bonds intensified, pushing the 30-year Treasury yield to a near two-decade high due to concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East and their impact on inflation.

The market's reaction highlights the ongoing risks associated with the conflict in the region, which can have far-reaching effects on oil prices, bond yields, currencies, and equities. North American markets closed lower yesterday, with Wall Street futures following suit today.

Earnings from Home Depot Inc. and Baidu Inc. are being closely watched by investors, while strategists at Gramercy Funds Management advise maintaining hedges against renewed oil and inflation volatility due to the unresolved standoff.

Oil prices rose for a third consecutive session as hopes for a deal to end the Middle East war faded, with Brent crude futures climbing 0.4% to $91.23 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures advancing 0.85% to $85.22 per barrel.

The Canadian dollar strengthened against its U.S. counterpart, rising about 1.71% over the past month, while the U.S. dollar index was little changed at 99.65. The loonie's day range was 72.04 US cents to 72.13 US cents in early trading.
