Mimura Sounds Alarm Over Yen's Sudden Surge

Japan's top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura expressed concern over recent movements in the yen, saying he was not yet comfortable with its current state. This comes after a sudden surge higher in the currency on Wednesday.

Mimura, Japan's vice finance minister for international affairs, declined to comment on specific currency levels or market movements but stated that he was 'neither satisfied nor reassured' by recent developments.

When asked if authorities had conducted a rate check, Mimura refused to comment. However, he did mention that the Japanese Finance Minister and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had productive discussions on market developments and cooperation within the G20 framework.
