Mixed US Stock Futures on Soft Inflation Data as Dow Jones Slips
The US stock market saw mixed futures trading on August 13, as investors react to the softer-than-expected CPI inflation reading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average index ended Thursday's session down by 21.58 points, making it a top loser compared to other indices.
Despite this, the S&P 500 index surged 20.30 points or 0.3% to trade around 7,748.50. Meanwhile, tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq 100 indices outperformed, driven by technology stocks.
According to Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder & CEO of HST Wealth, the global sentiment turned positive overnight after a benign U.S. inflation print eased concerns over further Federal Reserve tightening.
The US CPI inflation rate slowed to 3.4% in July 2026 from earlier 3.5% in June month, which is broadly in-line with street estimates. The core consumer prices went up 0.2%, following a flat reading in June, while the annual core inflation rate eased to 2.5% from 2.6% in the previous month.
