Moe Optimistic About Canada-US Trade Deal Amid Tariff Hopes
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is optimistic about the Canada-U.S. trade deal. He says that U.S. President Donald Trump's decision not to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian goods is a positive step for his province.
Moe notes that these additional levies would have been detrimental to businesses and the overall economy in Saskatchewan.
The premier hopes that a new agreement will result in smaller tariffs on steel, aluminum, lumber, and autos. He cites a sawmill in Saskatchewan that has suspended operations due to existing tariffs.
Moe also comments on Prime Minister Mark Carney's request for provinces to put U.S. liquor back on store shelves. However, this would not affect Saskatchewan as the province never imposed a ban.
