Moe Optimistic as Canada-U.S. Trade Deal Talks Yield Positive Results
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is optimistic about Canada's trade deal negotiations with the United States. He believes that recent developments, including U.S. President Donald Trump's decision not to impose 50% tariffs on various Canadian goods, are positive steps forward.
Moe cited a sawmill in Saskatchewan that recently suspended operations due to the tariffs as an example of their impact on businesses and the economy. He hopes that a new agreement will result in smaller levies on steel, aluminum, lumber, and autos.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has asked provinces to put U.S. liquor back on store shelves, but this would not affect Saskatchewan since it does not have a ban in place. Moe emphasized the importance of having preferred market access to Canada's largest trading partner.
