Montenegro Central Bank Celebrates 25 Years Amid Global Uncertainty
The Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) marked its 25th anniversary by hosting a high-level conference in Tivat, bringing together senior figures from European and international financial institutions. The event, titled Central Banking in a High-Risk Environment: Stability, Infrastructure and Trust, featured central bank governors from the euro area, European Union, and the region, alongside representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and other key organizations.
The conference also included attendees from Montenegrin state institutions, commercial banks, academia, and the diplomatic community. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva addressed participants via video message, emphasizing the importance of trusted institutions in times of global uncertainty. She noted that such trust is 'the most valuable currency of a central bank', adding that Montenegro's EU accession could lead to a 30-35% increase in GDP per capita over the next decade.
CBCG Governor Irena Radović highlighted the significance of this milestone, saying it marks a new chapter for the institution as it undergoes its most significant transformation since establishment. President Jakov Milatović described CBCG as one of Montenegro's key pillars of financial stability and institutional credibility.
