Nagel Cautions Against Rate Hike Speculation Amid Energy Price Concerns
ECB Governing Council member Joachim Nagel has warned that it's too early to speculate on rate hikes, according to a recent statement. The European Central Bank (ECB) is closely monitoring energy prices and will only consider tightening policy if inflation risks re-emerge.
Nagel emphasized the importance of maintaining price stability, with the ECB's primary mandate being to keep inflation around 2%. He noted that policy moves are dependent on energy prices but did not rule out a move into 'mildly restrictive territory'.
The EUR/USD pair is down 0.01% at 1.1610 following Nagel's comments, which some analysts have interpreted as mildly hawkish. However, the ECB has yet to signal any intention to raise rates in the near future.
