Nagel Sees Global Growth Resilient Amid Easing Inflation
European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member and Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel stated that global growth remains resilient despite geopolitical tensions. He noted that inflation is cooling, with core services inflation easing.
Nagel addressed foreign exchange interventions involving the Japanese yen (JPY), saying he would have preferred coordination. The use of the euro (EUR) in US and Japanese interventions was discussed at the Group of Twenty (G20) meeting.
The ECB's growing confidence that inflation is under control opens up opportunities for derivative traders, particularly interest rate derivatives. With Eurozone consumer price growth stabilizing near 2%, policymakers will likely feel comfortable pushing deposit rates down.
