Nagel's ECB Bid Gains Traction Amid Crypto Skepticism
Germany's Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has expressed support for Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel to take over as European Central Bank (ECB) president if a vacancy arises.
Nagel, who has been critical of cryptocurrencies in the past, would emerge as a dark horse candidate due to stiff competition from other contenders such as Pablo Hernández de Cos, former Governor of the Bank of Spain and current General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
Hernández de Cos has also expressed concerns about the risks posed by private money, including stablecoins.
Nagel's chances would be boosted if he receives backing from the German government, which manages Europe's largest economy.
