Naira Rises Against Pound Sterling, Euro, and Dollar Amid Decline in Major Currencies
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released updated selling rates for August 28, 2026, showing that the British pound sterling has dropped against the naira. The pound's selling rate fell from N1,820.34 on August 27 to N1,816.04 on August 28, a decrease of N4.30 in one day.
This decline is part of a broader trend where major currencies such as the euro and Swiss franc also posted lower selling rates. The euro's rate fell from N1,560.12 to N1,556.87, while the Swiss franc dropped from N1,664.91 to N1,662.05.
The US dollar selling rate also declined from N1,338.59 on August 27 to N1,337.29 on August 28, a reduction of N1.30. This movement means that the naira has strengthened against these currencies based on the CBN's selling-rate figures.
