Nasdaq 100, Cisco, and Euro on Alert for Key Economic Data
The week ahead promises significant economic data releases and company earnings reports that could impact financial markets. The US consumer price index (CPI) is expected to show a 0.2% rise in July, following a 0.4% decline in June, with the annual inflation rate projected to ease to 3.4% from 3.5%. Core CPI is forecast to increase 0.2% month-on-month after remaining unchanged in June.
The Nasdaq 100 has risen sharply over the past week but could be vulnerable around the CPI release, with potential pressure on the Federal Reserve to hike rates in September and weigh on risk assets. Cisco Systems is set to report its fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 results, with earnings expected to rise 18.2% to $1.17 a share and revenue projected to increase 14.7% to $16.8 billion.
In Germany, preliminary data showed consumer prices rising 0.8% month-on-month and 2.8% year-on-year in July, above expectations. This could impact the EUR/USD currency pair, which has recently strengthened against the dollar but faces resistance at the 78.6% retracement level.
The week's economic data releases also include key inflation readings from Germany, as well as the latest UK gross domestic product (GDP) growth figures. The US producer price index and retail sales data will be released later in the week, providing further insight into market trends.
