US-China trade tensions are escalating as Peter Navarro, Donald Trump's tariff guru, accused Canada of 'election interference' over counter-tariffs on politically sensitive sectors of the US economy.

Navarro claimed that Canada is trying to influence the upcoming elections by targeting Republican senators, including Susan Collins in Maine.

However, Canada's chief negotiator, Janice Charette, contradicted these claims in an interview with CBC News, stating that she had been 'resolute through these negotiations' and that the entirety of the automotive sector was on the table.

Charette also rejected US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's claim that certain trucks were raised in negotiations mere hours before deadline.
