Netherlands' Inflation Rate Hits 3.1% in July, Surpasses Decade-Average
The Netherlands' inflation rate rose to 3.1% in July 2026, according to a flash estimate by the Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measure showed a year-over-year increase of 3.1%, up from 2.9% in June. This marks a notable rise compared to an average July month-over-month change of 1.1% over the past ten years.
On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices increased by 1.6% in July 2026, as opposed to a 1.1% average increase for the same period over the past decade. The European Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) flash estimate also reported an inflation rate of 2.9%, down from 2.5% in June.
The main difference between the CPI and HICP is that the latter does not account for costs related to home ownership, such as changes in rents for housing. The CBS uses a new base year, switching from 2015=100 to 2025=100, which has taken effect since 2026.
