New Milford's July employment data reveals an unemployment rate of 5.3 percent, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. This figure is not seasonally adjusted and comes from the Local Area Unemployment Statistics program.

Of New Milford's estimated labor force of 15,524 residents in July, 14,695 were employed, while 829 were unemployed. The state unemployment rate held steady at 5.2 percent in July, which is a seasonally adjusted figure calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Connecticut's jobless rate has climbed one and three-tenths of a percentage point over the past 12 months, from 3.9 percent in July 2025 to 5.2 percent this year. Meanwhile, nonfarm payrolls kept growing, with employers adding 2,800 jobs in July, an increase of 0.2 percent.

According to Patrick Flaherty, director of the Office of Research at the Connecticut Department of Labor, 'Job growth has outpaced the nation so far in 2026, with health care and social assistance and manufacturing adding the most jobs this year to date.'
