New Zealand Dollar Hits Three-Week Low Amid Interest Rate Hike
The New Zealand dollar fell to its lowest level in three weeks after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's policy meeting on Wednesday. The central bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points, taking the benchmark rate to 2.75%, a one-year high.
The decision was broadly in line with market expectations and marked the second consecutive rate hike. The RBNZ said persistently elevated inflation, which reached 4.1% in the second quarter, warranted further monetary tightening.
Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Anna Breman emphasized that there is no predetermined path for monetary policy and that the timing of any further interest rate increase remains uncertain.
