New Zealand Dollar Loses Momentum Amid Cautious RBNZ Outlook and US Labor Market Strength

The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) is struggling to gain traction due to cautious expectations surrounding the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) monetary policy outlook. Despite two consecutive days of gains, NZD/USD trades around 0.5880 on Monday, posting a modest 0.06% decline.

The RBNZ's decision to raise its policy rate for a second consecutive meeting has not convinced investors that the central bank will implement more aggressive monetary tightening. This lack of conviction is limiting the NZD's appreciation potential.

Meanwhile, the US Dollar (USD) is being supported by the strength of the US labor market. The latest Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) figures showed a 162K increase in August, well above expectations of 56K. However, investors remain cautious ahead of upcoming inflation data from the United States.

The Federal Reserve's (Fed) next policy decisions will likely be influenced by the inflation reading. Goldman Sachs believes that a benign Consumer Price Index (CPI) could prevent the Fed from raising interest rates, even after the solid performance of the labor market in August.
